Create Jewelry You’re Proud to Wear, Gift or Sell

New Projects Added Each Month!

You love handmade jewelry! You watch all the tutorials on YouTube, you save the videos, you’ve maybe even bought a few tools.

You see beautiful handcrafted rings, necklaces and earrings at markets and online and wish you could create pieces like that too.

But it feels overwhelming! Where do you even begin? I felt the same way when I first got started.

If you’re like me you might be wondering…

  • There are SO MANY tools used in metalsmithing. What are the best ones to start with? I don’t want to spend a TON on them.

In “Set Up Your Home Studio” I guide you through all of the essential tools, what they do and how to use them to make things.

We also cover the “nice to have down the road tools” which will make life easier if you want to make a lot of jewelry.

Each class covers the tools used and I give you links on where to find them along with instructions on how to use them.

  • This is the question students ask me most often.

It really depends on what you want to make.

In “Set Up Your Home Studio” I share a list of metals I use for different projects and give you the links to my Rio Lists that include all of the order numbers so you don’t have to search for them.

Each months projects have a supply and material list with links to all of the tools and materials needed to complete the projects.

I explain the when and they why of choosing metals.

  • First, let me say it will happen and we all do it.

One of the things I like to focus on is how to fix things when they go awry.

I myself learned using base metals like copper and bronze-this takes the fear factor away and is a great place to start.

Once you’re more comfortable working with a torch, introduce silver.

Start small and build. If you melt it, it’s ok. I’ll show you ways to fix common mistakes and what to do if it all goes down in a blaze of glory.

These are great questions that I wondered myself back in 2012 when I didn’t know my pickle from my patina.

I had no idea what to buy or where to buy it. Silver seemed so expensive when I had no idea how to use it! It was scary!

I was ordering beads online and getting completely the wrong size-GIANT beads, tiny beads, all wrong.

Even my most successful students felt baffled by these things too when they were first starting out.

The difference was they had a supportive guide to walk them through, step by step instead of floundering around trying to piece it all together.

Someone you can ask questions to when you get stuck.

Someone who has helped student’s just like you to:

  • Set Up Your Home Studio safely-using and storing gases in your house can seem intimidating at first. I help take the fear away so you know how to protect yourself and your home

  • Make your first jewelry ever-whether it’s just for you or as a gift-it’s an accomplishment worth feeling proud of

  • Sell your first piece of jewelry-if you’d like to sell your jewelry, I’ll be adding classes on the business side of jewelry making as well!

  • Participate in your first Art Market or shop-even if you want to sell online, I still recommend doing a show to get feedback on what people like and what they’re drawn to.

I’ll show you how to get set up making jewelry safely at home and start making metal jewelry with step-by-step tutorials that are easy to follow, even if you’ve never made jewelry before, like ever.

Even if you don’t feel like you’re “creative”.

I’ve been metalsmithing since 2012 and have taught over 5,000 students in my Syracuse Studio that I started in 2018.

I’ve sold my work at shows, online and in stores and currently have an Artisan Shop in my studio where I feature my own work, along with the work of our student’s and teacher’s.

I’m here to guide you in successfully making and selling your work.

“Kelly is just the best! She explains every step in detail and patiently guides you through the ring-making process. As someone who has never made metal-based jewelry before, I felt very empowered throughout the whole process and am proud of the ring I made. Kelly went way above and beyond and took extra time and care to make sure I was happy with the final product, which I so appreciated!”

Kelly is an amazing teacher. Her class room is well laid out and organized to provide a positive space for learning. Her class projects are fun and engaging, and I like that she keeps her class sizes small. I always feel like I have enough personal assistance when I need it. Jewelry making is both easier than I had anticipated, and yet there are a lot of little steps to ensure your pieces turn out the way you intend them to. Kelly is a great mentor and I would highly recommend her studio if you’d like to learn something exciting and new
